When it came to choosing our title, we debated over each word. Finally, Toward Mastery and Beyond presented itself as the obvious choice. There was still one problem … we had to mention which glide the book was about. Some of us suggested skiing while others preferred snowboarding, Telemark, monoskiing, and even skwal. Although we follow the same paths in Toward Ski Mastery and Beyond and ultimately go on the same journey, we do so on different boards, and we’ll continue to glide in this diverse manner.
However, to keep things simple, we used the generic term ‘ski’ for our first version. In its broadest sense, it encompasses the other downhill snow sports.
For simplicity, we have not described each technical element in the book in terms of all the variants. Nevertheless, it was always our intention that if the book was well received, we would dedicate a version to each type of downhill glide. And so that’s what we’ve decided to do!
These new versions are above all a way to highlight that this book is valuable for all types of gliding.
We strongly believe that when we do several types of downhill snow sports, they complement each other. There is cross-learning: mastering one form can enrich your practice of another. So, in these new versions all the essential content of the original is included, and we have adapted the technical parts specifically for snowboarding, free-heel skiing or monoski.
